The doors of capital

Which capital do you want to put to work?

Here capital does not only mean money: it means anything of yours capable of generating value. Eight doors, one single principle: every form of capital has a way of turning into value, and you have them all below, one by one. The underlying reasoning is in the extended theory of capital.

Who sets the exact point within each range, and with what logic: the committee.

Funding innovation is the investment with the highest ceiling there is and, for that very reason, the most uncertain: we set the two out together, with their sources, in investing in innovation. But that ceiling is not reached with money alone. Many pieces are needed at once: a problem someone will pay to solve, the knowledge to attack it, the hands to build it, the first customer, the structure to sustain the years without revenue and the money to fund the journey.

It is very likely that you have one of those pieces and are not using it for this. A problem you have spent years watching from inside your sector. An idea sitting still. A book of contacts. A high tax bill that today is simply paid. None of them looks like an asset, and separately none of them is: it becomes worth something when it joins the others. Bringing them together is the work of a venture builder.

Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote
